RACE CONDITIONS

Equibase collects race conditions according to the following table. Race condition codes for open races that have no conditions do not have condition codes. All race types with the exception of maiden special weight - MSW; maiden claiming - MCL; maiden optional claiming - MOC) may have race conditions.

EXAMPLES OF MULTIPLE RACE CONDITIONS

Some races have multiple race conditions within the same race. Generally the first set of race conditions should be used to assign the proper race condition codes for these races.

Non-winners of a race other than maiden, claiming or starter or never won 2 races

NW 1 X

Non-winners of two races other maiden or claiming in 2001-2002 or claiming $62,500

NW 2 Y+ X

Non-winners of $3,000 twice other than maiden, claiming, optional or starter or never won 3 races

NW 2 X

Non-winners of a race in 2002 or non-winners of 4 races (race run in September)

NW 1 9M

Non-winners of either $3,000 three times other than maiden, claiming, starter or non-winners of 4 or claiming $100,000

NW 3 $ X

Horses that have broken their maidens for $40,000 or less and have never won 2 races

(The first clause "broken their maidens for $40,000 or less" defines the race type as a starter race and the second clause "never won 2 races" is the race condition)

NW 2 L

Many tracks are switching these conditions around.

Never won 3 races or non-winners of $3,000 twice other than maiden, claiming, optional or starter

NW 2 $ X

Never won either two races or a race other than maiden or claiming

NW 1 X

Never won 2 or non-winners of a race other than maiden, claiming, starter or trial in 2003

NW 1 3M X

In these examples, we would NOT use the first condition. If there is a multiple condition race and one of the conditions is an "other than" (X) condition, ALWAYS use the "other than" condition.

The proper assignment of race conditions is a critical component of race result information. If there is any question regarding the handling of any unusual race condition, especially multiple race conditions, please contact your Field Supervisor for assistance.
