RE: Footnotes/Race Comments/Oddities

Effective immediately, information regarding late disqualifications (after race declared official), no contest races, hand timed races, bonus payments or any other unusual circumstances regarding a race, should be denoted at the end of the footnote.

This information should all be in capital letters, two spaces from the end of the footnote similar to current guidelines for steward’s inquiries, objections, horses declared non-starters and all pre-official disqualifications. In races that have been declared no contest, it is also necessary to indicate ‘No Contest’ by choosing N in the Race Comment screen and providing the reason for the no contest.

When the official Ruling is received, the chartcaller must go back into the footnote, add the disqualification text at the end in capital letters and MUST ALSO make a note in Oddities and re-validate the chart. We will continue our policy of not denoting any scratched horses out of the post parade or switched wagers from scratched horses to post time favorites in the footnotes.

Please discontinue using the Race Comment screen for any comments other than when a race is declared a no contest. Consistent with our policy, any change made to a chart after validation requires adding a note in Oddities. The note should include the reason for the change, date, and initials.

RULES FOR FORMATTING FOOTNOTE TEXT REGARDING RULINGS:

EXAMPLE : PER RULING DATED 1/18/11 RECEIVED FROM THE IOWA RACING COMMISSION (RULING #342), BAD LEROY BROWN WAS DQ’D DUE TO A POSITIVE TEST.
